SECTION  X – SHOW AND CONTEST

1.       The APHC will not be responsible for any loss, damage or injury to horses exhibited or persons present or for any article of any kind or nature that may be lost, stolen, destroyed or injured in any way. Each exhibitor will be solely responsible for any consequential or other loss, injury or damage done to, or occasioned by, or arising from any horse or article owned by him, and shall indemnify the APHC and the hosting facility against all legal or other proceedings, claims or demands of any kind or nature in regard thereto, or that may arise from the participation or other actions of such exhibitor or the person in charge of exhibitor’s horse or article.

2.       All Shows and contests sponsored/approved by the APHC shall be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations in the current APHA rule book.

3.       When the Board has approved all show dates and locations, a show calendar will be published.

4.       A premium list will be forwarded to all APHC members, and shall include: Starting time of the show, order of halter and performance classes, name(s) of Judge(s), names and telephone numbers of the manager and secretary, rules for entries, entry deadline, entry fees and how entry fee is to be paid, awards and other information as applicable.

5.       Classes to be offered at each show each year shall be established and approved by the Board at or before the November Board meeting preceding the show calendar year.

  1. Non APHC sponsored shows or shows combined with other breeds need not meet the above class requirements.
  2. Additional classes my be included if recommended by the Show & Contest Committee and approved by the Board.

 

7.       Awards to be offered at each two Judge show shall be High Point & Reserve High Point Walk/Trot, Youth 13 & Under, Youth-14 – 18, Green Handler/Rider, Novice Amateur, Amateur, Breeding Stock Horse, Jr. Open Performance & Sr. Open Performance Horse. The requirements for each award offered to be printed in the premium.

  1. In the event of ties, the monies allocated for each place involved in the tie will be added together and divided equally between the tied exhibitors/horses.
  2. Paint-O-Rama awards will be established and approved by the Board on an annual basis, and may vary from above.
  3. Additional awards may be offered as approved by the Board.
  4. Points will be tabulated as outlined in Section XI Rule #4.A.

8.       General Show Rules:

  1. Green Rider/Handler classes are open to regular and breeding stock registered horses, and to any exhibitor, age 19 & over, provided he/she has not won three (3) or more first placings in showmanship to compete in showmanship classes; has not won three (3) or more first placings in English classes to compete in English classes; has not won three (3) or more first placings in Western to compete in Western classes. Persons winning three (3) first placings in a class in a calendar year will be allowed to compete in that Green Handler/Rider class for the rest of the calendar year.
  2. Green Horse classes are open to regular and breeding stock horses all ages that have not won three (3) or more first placings in any performance class in any recognized breed show or futurity. Two Year Old, Junior (5 years and Under) and Senior (6 Years and over) horses must be shown according to APHA rules governing their respective age group. Horses winning three (3) first placings in a class in a calendar year will be allowed to compete in the Green Horse classes for the rest of the calendar year.
  3. Entries must be made on forms provided by APHC for that show, and completed accurately with the requested information; i.e. registration number, owner and horse name exactly as on registration papers and/or I.D cards, exhibitor name, the relationship code for amateur and youth exhibitors, youth birth date and parent/owner/agent signature and class numbers. Exhibitors are responsible for entering correct classes before and during the show.

1.       Late penalty may be assessed for incomplete or illegible entry forms.

  1. Exhibitors/horses in the first five (5) classes must be entered one half (1/2) hour prior to the scheduled starting time of the show, or they may not be allowed to show.
  2. Entry fees need not accompany pre-entries. Exhibitors will not be charged for scratched classes, but may be charged class fee for failure to scratch class before class is called.
  3. Penalties will be assessed for:

1.       Entries not postmarked by the deadline. (Phone entries not accepted.)

2.       Checks returned for insufficient funds.

3.       Failure to check out of the office without leaving an open check.

  1. The age of a Youth or Amateur competitor on January 1st shall be maintained throughout the calendar year and will determine the age group in which that person will compete.
  2. APHA rules require show management to see a current amateur/novice amateur card (or copy) at each show prior to receiving entry number.
  3. APHA rules require show management to inspect horse’s registration papers (or copy) at each show prior to receiving entry number.
  4. Failure by exhibitor to display the correct entry number in a visible manner while being judged shall result in disqualification from class. (Rule SC-160.H) Entry numbers are to be worn as follows: Halter on exhibitors back; English on exhibitors back or on English pads with place for numbers on each side; Western on both sides of the horse; Pleasure driving on the exhibitors back or back of cart. Failure to display entry number in this manner may result in disqualification and exhibitor may be excused from the arena.
  5. Exhibitors will be disqualified if assisted by electronic audio aids while showing in a class. Exception: An exhibitor with special needs must present a copy of the approval letter from the APHA Executive Board stating the accommodations necessary and classes to be exhibited in. Show Management shall inform the judges of any special accommodations being used.
  6. Classes will run in order listed. Anyone requiring a tack change must notify the gate person at least one class prior to the change.
  7. Thirty (30) second gate calls will be enforced. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to be at the entry gate when class is called.
  8. Course patterns will be posted near the entry gate a minimum of one (1) hour prior to the class. Show management will determine the working order.
  9. The Show Committee has the right to interpret AND ACT ON all questions regarding the show.
  10. The horse show office will not be able to cash personal checks.

9.       The Board shall establish and approve all show fees.

10.   The Show & Contest Committee shall meet at least annually and shall submit recommendations regarding show dates, locations, judges and any changes to the show and contest rules to the Board of Directors for approval not later than the November board meeting.
